Asia: a key vector of Arkema's strategy
Map of Arkema's facilities in Asia
Ambitious development
Arkema’s future projects in Asia
Selective and profitable growth
A large number of projects have been announced since Arkema’s creation:
-
Tin stabilizers in Beijing,
-
Hydrogen peroxide in Shanghai,
-
Organic peroxides, polyamides, slush molding compounds, Kynar®, F125, fluorinated blends in Changshu.
A twofold approach:
-
the development of sites dedicated to a single activity: Shanghai and Beijing,
-
an integrated and highly competitive platform: Changshu.
Targeted projects
At a time when most chemical producers are boosting their presence in Asia, in particular with a very high concentration of projects in China, Arkema has opted for a specific approach:
-
Consolidating product lines that boast a competitive advantage, and in which the Group enjoys a world leading position, e.g. hydrogen peroxide and fluorinated gases
-
Capitalizing on a solid industrial and technological base with efficient sites and processes
-
Operating world-scale facilities in every relevant sector
-
Favoring local strategic partnerships, in particular to facilitate access to raw materials and to secure supplies.
Hydrogen Peroxide in Shanghai (China)
 |
In terms of investments in Asia, 2007 was marked in particular by the doubling of production capacity for hydrogen peroxide at the Shanghai site (China).
Benefiting from a buoyant and fast-growing market in North-East Asia (over 10% per year in China), and leveraging its industrial know-how, Arkema now enjoys a leading position in China in hydrogen peroxide, with a world-competitive plant.
|
Markets:
Hydrogen peroxide is used for its oxidizing properties in many applications including paper and textile bleaching, detergence, as well as effluent and gas treatment. It is also a key product in many other sectors such as electronics manufacture, the agro-food industry, and pharmaceuticals manufacture.
Changshu: an integrated and competitive platform
 |
Inaugurated in 2000 with the production of fluorinated gases and polyamides, the Changshu industrial platform has benefited from € 200 M investments for its expansion. Following the startup of the organic peroxides plant in 2005, production capacities for fluorinated gases and polyamides were increased in 2007.
New development projects for Changshu have been announced in 2008, including the creation of two joint ventures with the Daikin group, in particular for HFC 125 production on the Changshu site in China, and the creation of a new PVDF plant.
